New residential building inspection standard

On July 26, 2022, the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ) published the draft standard BNQ 3009-500: “Residential building – Inspection practices in a real estate transaction context” following the consultation of various stakeholders, including the OACIQ, by a standards committee.

Bill 96 and amendment to the Civil Code of Quebec: New obligations having an impact on the practice of the profession

The Act respecting French, the official and common language of Québec (bill 96) , adopted on May 24, 2022,  officially came into force on June 1, 2022. This has resulted in several amendments to the Charter of the French Language and the Civil Code of Québec to require that documents and deeds used in the real estate field be drafted in French. Some of these amendments are already in force, while others will soon be implemented.

Assessing the seriousness of an offence when applying disciplinary measures

The OACIQ Assistance Department receives and processes around 2,500 requests for assistance emanating from the public, the industry and the OACIQ Inspection Department. Its role is to analyze all requests received an determine the seriousness of each case.
