The OACIQ presents its strategic directions

Brossard, August 3, 2017 – An even better-informed and better-protected public: that is the objective pursued by the Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) as it introduces its strategic directions for the next three years.

“In an industry where practices face new challenges, and in the context of the revision of the Real Estate Brokerage Act, these strategic directions will enable us to play an even more effective role as the regulator of real estate and mortgage brokerage in Québec,” noted OACIQ President and CEO Nadine Lindsay.

Outline

For 2017-2019 the OACIQ Board of Directors has adopted four strategic directions that will guide the Organization’s actions. Here is an outline, along with a few examples:

  • ensure a reinforced oversight of real estate and mortgage brokerage;
  • promote a culture of compliance in professionals authorized by the OACIQ;
  • strengthen the OACIQ’s effectiveness and continuity;
  • broaden the OACIQ’s reach and visibility.

The Organization has improved the accessibility of its Info OACIQ service and Assistance Department in order to provide better support to those seeking its help. The OACIQ also plans to tighten its oversight of brokers by promoting the ongoing development of the Real Estate Brokerage Act  and the regulations thereunder.

In order to encourage compliance by authorized professionals, the OACIQ plans, notably: to review its inspection process for brokers and agencies and adopt a risk management-based approach; to make agency executive officers more accountable for and better equipped to deal with the conduct of their brokers; to speed up its response to requests from the public; to improve access to information regarding disciplinary decisions; and to emphasize conduct and ethics in all its training activities.

The OACIQ will also get closer to the public by maximizing its use of social media and revamping its website to make the information easier to access. The reason is simple: the more Quebecers know about the OACIQ and its mission, the more they will avail themselves of the services provided by the Organization and the protection mechanisms available under the Real Estate Brokerage Act.

The Organization will also increase its visibility by holding its first Colloque immobilier this fall. This symposium, at which the latest issues will be discussed, will be attended by players from all sectors of the industry to help advance real estate brokerage in Québec and promote public protection and innovation.

“In the end, I am confident – and this is shared enthusiastically at every level of the Organization – that these directions, which will serve as a basis for a number of other targeted actions, will enable us to do an even better job of informing and protecting the public,” declared OACIQ Chairman Michel Léonard.
