The OACIQ suspended the licence of 106 brokers

Brossard, May 7, 2019 – The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ), the real estate and mortgage brokerage authority in Quebec, has just suspended the licence of 106 brokers (out of a total of almost 15,600 brokers in Quebec) who have not completed their Mandatory Continuing Education Program 2017-2019. As of May 1, they are no longer authorized to engage in any professional activities until the Program requirements are met.

“Suspending the licence of brokers who do not meet the requirements of their continuing education program or their obligations under the Real Estate Brokerage Act is a concrete example of the actions taken to accomplish the important public protection mission entrusted to us as real estate brokerage regulator,” comments OACIQ President and CEO Nadine Lindsay.

To find out whether a real estate or mortgage broker has completed his or her mandatory continuing education program or to check the validity of a broker’s licence, consumers may consult the Register of licence holders accessible via the Check a broker's record tool on the oaciq.com website.

About the OACIQ Mandatory Continuing Education Program

The Mandatory Continuing Education Program implemented by the OACIQ in 2015 must be completed by all Quebec real estate and mortgage brokers. Its aim is to ensure that brokers' skills are optimal and regularly updated to properly assist their clients with all complex aspects of a real estate transaction. Brokers and executive officers of real estate and mortgage agencies must take a number of mandatory and elective training activities within a two-year training cycle. The OACIQ launched its third training cycle on May 1, which will end in 2021.
