An initiative to buy or sell a property with peace of mind

Brossard, April 1, 2026 — The Organisme d’autoréglementation du courtage immobilier du Québec (OACIQ) announces the launch of the second edition of Real Estate Awareness Month, which will take place throughout the month of April. This awareness initiative aims to provide Quebec consumers with accessible online educational content to support their understanding of the real estate process, their rights and obligations, the precautions to take, and the protections that apply at each stage of a real estate transaction carried out with a real estate broker.

“Buying or selling a property or building often represents the most important transaction of a lifetime. In a real estate market where decisions are made quickly, with significant financial and legal risks, the OACIQ’s role of protecting the public becomes even more essential. Real Estate Awareness Month therefore helps inform consumers and entrepreneurs by giving them access to reliable, relevant information to better understand their rights and obligations and prevent problematic situations.”

— Louis BEAUCHAMP, OACIQ spokesperson and head of industry relations.

Three pathways adapted to every situation

This year, the experience is organized around three simple pathways: before, during and after a transaction. Participants can choose the pathway that best suits their situation and access a varied program that includes short video capsules (2 to 5 minutes), podcasts hosted by experts, explanatory content and interactive questionnaires to test their knowledge.

Depending on the pathway selected, participants will be able to learn more about a wide range of topics.

  • Before a real estate transaction, they will discover how to choose a real estate broker, understand transaction-related risks, plan their budget, or become familiar with condominium rules.
  • During the transaction, they will be able to delve deeper into pre-purchase inspections, real estate brokerage forms, conflicts of interest, remuneration, and the support provided by the real estate broker.
  • After the transaction, content will cover latent defects, condition deadlines, possible recourses, and the role of the real estate broker in protecting a vulnerable client.

SIGN UP TO DISCOVER EDUCATIONAL CONTENT

The program will be enhanced each week with new content, enabling participants to regularly discover new resources that address real estate transactions from both the buyer’s and seller’s perspectives.

The Real Estate Awareness Month is intended for anyone interested in buying or selling a property or building, including first-time buyers, condominium owners, entrepreneurs, and consumers facing complex or vulnerable situations.
