As part of their marketing work, many brokers advise their selling clients to organize open houses to allow a maximum number of potential buyers to take interest in their property. However, some brokers advertise, in connectionwith their listings, several open houses held at the same time and which they fail to attend.

The OACIQ wishes to point out that a broker or agency may advertise an open house only if the seller’s broker is present during the open house or if he is able to be replaced by another broker.

It’s the broker’s duty to protect and promote his selling client’s interests. By attending the open house, the broker will ensure that relevant and accurate information on the property is provided. In addition, for reasons of security and protection of the property for sale, we remind you that the broker should check the identity of visitors and record their names in a register of visits.  The scope of these actions should not be underestimated. In addition to observing good professional practices, these actions show the added value of the broker’s work and therefore increase clients’ trust in the profession.
